Our Museum is run entirely by volunteers.
The Museum is a registered charity whose Trustees are elected annually by its members “The Friends of the Weardale Museum”. The 16 elected Trustees meet every month to make decisions. Keeping the Museum open for the advertised hours is a major task and we have about 25-30 volunteer stewards who take turns to welcome visitors. New Stewards are always welcome.
Membership of our organisation is made up of “Friends of the Weardale Museum” who, for a small annual subscription, receive a membership card entitling them to free admission to the Museum, a newsletter and the right to attend and vote at the AGM.
Our aim is to encourage a large number of ‘Friends’ who wish to support the Museum in its aim to preserve the heritage of Weardale for the benefit of visitors and those who live here.
