Getting Here

No matter how you choose to get here, a warm welcome is always guaranteed.

By Car

Find us beside the A689 between Stanhope and Alston at the centre of the North Pennines and only an hour by car from Tyneside, Teesside and the Lake District.


By Bus

Service 100 'Roof of England' Bus operates on Sundays.
Weardale Motor Services also run a regular bus service through Weardale, except on Sundays and Bank Holidays.

Opening Hours

  • July & August: Were open every day between 1:30pm & 4:30 pm.
  • May, June, September & October: Were open Wednesday to Sunday between 1:30pm & 4:30pm
  • Easter & Bank Holidays: Were open during Easter and every bank holiday between 1:30pm & 4:30pm
We can also arrange opening outside of these hours for group visits by prior appointment only.

Admission for children is free

Adults

Admission for adults is £3 per person

Parking

Limited parking for around 8 cars is available at the museum. Our car park is located to the rear of the building. There is also further parking available within Ireshopeburn.

Disabled Access

Access for wheelchair users available to the ground floor. Our upstairs displays including the Weardale Tapestry can be viewed in our large books and on our specially designed ipad displays. Access Statement

Group Visits

Group visits can be catered for outside of our core operational hours by appointment. One of our volunteers will meet your group personally and provide a guided tour of the museum. More information can be found here.
