The 18th of May 2025 marks 40 years since the Museum opened its doors for the first time in 1985, and four decades of preserving and promoting Weardale history and heritage. This is a big milestone in the history of the Museum, and one that its volunteers are proud to celebrate.
As part of the festivities the Museum is holding a series of talks, one in every village hall in Weardale, throughout May and early June. There is also a celebration in Stanhope that mirrors the service held in High House Chapel on opening day in 1985, and a special exhibition of the Methodist Tapestries Collection. Find out more on the events page.
This series of events, visiting every corner of Weardale, emphasises the Museum’s community focus. In this spirit, the Museum wishes to thank all its local supporters, many of whom have contributed generously to the birthday celebrations.
